What is CPT?

Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is a structured educational program that combines classroom learning with productive work experience in a field related to a student's academic program. CPT may be available to certain F-1 students.

When JSOM F-1 students accept an internship offer, they also must be eligible for CPT, and then approved both, before work authorization will be granted for work off-campus.

It is highly recommended that F-1 students confirm their eligibility for CPT before interviewing for an internship or considering accepting an offer.  All F1 students are required to complete the CPT workshop prior to requesting approval for CPT.

Questions about CPT eligibility should be directed to ISSO.  More information can be found at https://www.utdallas.edu/ic/isso/cpt/

Note: F-1 students must not start work for any company without CPT approval, whether paid or unpaid. If considering volunteering, check with ISSO before you start.
