My employer wants to extend my internship. How do I report this?

If you are being offered an internship extension for the following semester:

- Report the internship (experience) as soon as you receive the offer letter, preferably at least 2 weeks before the initial employment will end.

- If the employer confirms the new end date and hours per week in an email and does not issue a new offer letter, upload this email along with the original offer letter.

- Plan for no gap in employment, I-20 work authorization should end and start on consecutive dates.  Check eligible dates on the CMC website at https://jindal.utdallas.edu/career-management-center/internships/#04-reporting-and-timelines

- F1 students must register for a CPT/internship in each semester, and complete an internship course for at least 1 credit hour in each semester.

Occasionally your employer asks you to stay for an additional few weeks.  If your internship end date is changed to later within the same semester and the internship will end before the first day of the next semester, contact [email protected] to request a date change.

- For F-1 students, the I-20 work authorization must be updated by ISSO. The student should send an email to [email protected] to request a change to the I-20. The student must receive the valid I-20 before working any additional days.

- Any requests for internship date changes should be sent to [email protected]
